Simatai Great Wall is separated by a valley into eastern and western parts. The western part is gently sloped with 20 well-preserved watchtowers dotting along the wall. The eastern part is much steeper, following more rugged terrain that includes cliff edges and kilometre-high peaks.

First, Tourists free to browse in the water town of Gubei (around 2 hours). And then walk to Simatai Great Wall, take the cable car to the top of the Great Wall. Simatai Great Wall is located about 130 km from downtown Beijing. The Simatai Great Wall was first constructed built in the Ming Dynasty. The famous general, Xu Da, of the early Ming Dynasty supervised and directed the construction of the Great Wall. Later, Qi Jiguang led a number of defense works while guarding the north area in 1567. The trip hike is about 6.5km and takes about 3.5 hours. Each tower has its unique feature and look. There are relatively less crowded here at Simatai Great Wall it is a nice place to explore the Great Wall in Beijing. In the afternoon, transferred back to your downtown hotel in Beijing. |

Situated in Gubei Town of Miyun County in Beijing, Gubei Water Town surrounds the beautiful Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir and leans against the Simatai Great Wall, the most dangerous and majestic section of the entire Great Wall. Regarded as ‘Wuzhen in Beijing’, Gubei Water Town boasts a combination of mountains, water and ancient villages.
The town is characterized by the northern architectural style, and the history and culture of the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and the Republic of China (1912-1949) historic period. Most buildings are reconstructed in the traditional courtyard style. Based on five ancient villages and a water resource, this water town has developed into a large-scale sightseeing and holiday destination. You will be pick up by your tour guide in the early morning (between 7:00am to 7:30am), and hop-on coach bus for this fun day trip. About 10:00am, you will arrival beautiful Gubei Water Town, and your tour guide will assist you to purchase entrance ticket. This is a self-guide tour, and you can spend enough time in the Water Town on Simatai Great Wall. Upon arriving at Simatai, you can hike up the sheer sides of the wall by yourself or ride on a cable-car to the summit (at your own cost). Once you are up there, you will be amazed with how untouched and well preserved this Great Wall still remains since Ming Dynasty. There are almost no hawkers at Simatai, just few windswept old ladies sell postcards, ice-creams and cold bottles of water. The entire Wall is yours, and you can explore it by your own pace. As you walk along the 5.4 kilometer stretch that straddles Beijing City and Hebei Province, you will realize how difficult to build this Great Wall. What an amazing construction! Simatai Great Wall sits on rugged ridge 960 metres above sea-level. It really is an architectural wonder.
After coming down from the Wall, you can start walking around in Gubei Water Town where is a rare natural old town with a combination of mountains, water and ancient dwellings. With a history of thousands of years, this town possesses an old-fashioned simplicity and elegance. Row upon row of houses, old quartzite streets and long Hutongs characterize the style and features of the old town. You can have your lunch in this lovely town (at your own cost). Your tour is end between 2:40pm to 3:00pm, and you will get on the coach bus again to return back to your hotel in Beijing.
