Simatai Great wall is located in Gubei kou Town to the northeast of Miyu County of Beijing. This section of Great Wall is famous for its 5 features of “steepness, compactness, queerness, wonderfulne and comprehensiveness” Simatai Great Wall is exquisite in its architecture details and is grand as a whole structure along the mountains. This wall is the only section that remains the original characters of Ming Dynasty. It was the original creation of the famous General Qi Jiguang and was completed under the supervision of him. One of the prestigious Great Wall experts, Luo Zhewen, praised the Great wall of China the best around the world and Simtal Great Wall deserves the best section of the Great Wall among all the sections of Chinese Great Wall. Simatai Great Wall has been listed as the World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.

Around 7:00am pick up from hotel in downtown Beijing. We offer simple breakfast. Arrival at Jinshanling Great Wall around 10:00am. Hiking from east section of Jinshanling to Simatai Great Wall west part. Jinshanling and Simatai Great Wall is located about 130km from downtown Beijing. The Jinshanling and Simatai Great Wall was first constructed built in the Ming Dynasty. The famous general, Xu Da, of the early Ming Dynasty supervised and directed the construction of the Great Wall. Later, Qi Jiguang led a number of defense works while guarding the north area in 1567. The trip hike is about 6.5km and takes about 3.5 hours. Each tower has its unique feature and look. There are relatively less crowded here at Jinshanling and Simatai Great Wall, it is a nice place to explore the Great Wall in Beijing. after lunch, transferred back to downtown hotel in Beijing.

This moderately challenging, 3.5 hours hike offers breathtaking views of the Great Wall from Simatai west to Jinshanling, snaking along the ridge of the mountains, taking you through crumbling, ancient watch towers along the way. Hiking along this thoughtfully restored section of the Great Wall will transport you back in time to the heyday of imperial China and allow you to get a sense of what it must have felt like to be a Ming Dynasty soldier sent to the northern frontier of the Chinese empire to protect the imperial capital, Beijing, against nomadic invaders. Jinshanling is also famous for being one of the most photogenic sections of the Great Wall and is a fantastic place to take photos.

This tour will walk from Jinshanling to Simatai Great Wall, to the 22nd tower. You can also take the cable car to go directly from the 1st tower to the 16th tower and then hike the rest, just that you need to pay the cable car ticket by yourself. It is the best place for keen photographers along the wall.

Full-Day Tour From Jinshanling to Simatai Great Wall Hiking (no shopping)

As the most popular hiking trip of Great Wall around Beijing, it will show you both untouched and restored sections of the Great Wall at Simatai west and Jinshanling within 3.5 hours. We will reach the Wall by Kylin Tower at Simatai west, and then walk westward to Jinshanling. We will get off the wall at Shalingkou at Jinshanling, or you can walk another 30 minutes if you feel energetic and then get off the wall at Zhuanduokou. The unrestored wall, the watch towers, the beacon towers snake on the mountain from east to west. You will have chance to meet local farmer friends, try local home-made food and learn local community development. It is the best place for keen photographers along the wall. Regarding fitness it is a medium-level hiking for all ages.

Meet you up at 7am and then drive to Simatai west. You will start the hiking around 10:30 am, and it will take about 3.5 hours to complete the hiking. A lunch at a local farmer’s restaurant will be organized after the hiking before returning your hotel. This section offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watch-towers here. Some have two storeys, others three. Some have flat roofs, others rounded and others again are pitched with upturned eaves. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.

Этот однодневный тур с походом по стене от Цзиньшаньлина до Симатай просто супер! Меньше людей, потрясающие виды, и сам маршрут был довольно увлекательным. К тому же, никакого шопинга, только природа и история. Очень крутая экскурсия, если хочешь насладиться тишиной и красотой Великой стены.

What an incredible day! The hike from Jinshanling to Simatai was everything I hoped for—beautiful views, fresh air, and no crowds to ruin the experience. The trail was a bit tough in places, but the scenery made it all worthwhile. And the best part? No shopping distractions! It was just me, the Wall, and nature. Definitely a must-do for anyone wanting to truly experience the Great Wall.

This full-day hike from Jinshanling to Simatai was absolutely amazing. The views along the Wall were incredible—each section had its own charm, and since there weren’t many tourists, it felt like I had the Wall all to myself. The hike was a bit challenging at times, but that made it even more rewarding. No shopping stops, just pure hiking and history. A perfect way to experience the Great Wall in a peaceful setting.
